Zoe Saldana learnt to drive after 'family intervention'

Zoe Saldana has confessed that she only learnt to drive after her exhausted family staged "an intervention".

The 33-year-old explained that she grew "lazy" and became reliant on her loved ones for lifts after being chauffeured around Los Angeles during filming of Avatar.

"I'm like [calling] my mum, my sisters, 'What are you doing? I gotta go shopping! I'm out of toilet paper, can somebody please...?'," she told WENN.

"And they would come and after a while they had an intervention. They're like, 'Zoe, enough is enough. You're gonna be 30 soon and we can't drive you forever!' So they drove me to the DMV, they taught me how to drive."

Saldana went on to purchase a luxury car for herself after finally winning her license, despite her concern that it would get "smashed" in a traffic accident.

"I just got myself an Audi S6. I should have just gotten a used car and smashed it up, but I went and leased a brand new car," she added.

Saldana confessed earlier this month that she had a breakdown after Avatar.
