Earlier this week, fans of the actor launched a social networking campaign across Twitter and Facebook petitioning for him to run for office.
However, during a public appearance this weekend alongside his son Emilio Estevez, Sheen insisted that although he was flattered by the vote of confidence he had no intention to campaign.
The Apocalypse Now actor would theoretically be able to stand in the election due to having an Irish mother.
The Facebook campaign petitioning for Sheen's participation currently stands at almost 5,000 members.
The actor famously portrayed fictional US President Josiah Bartlett on NBC legal drama The West Wing between 1999 and 2006.
