Alba, who has two young daughters called Honor and Haven, said that she doesn't see any reason why they would need to work at a young age when she can provide for them.
"I just don't see the need to put a child in a situation where they're working with adults or being asked to work," Alba told Yahoo News. "I think they should just be kids.
"I love being in the arts so when they're finished with college, and they want to do that, [then] totally," she added. "I think the more life experience you have, the better you are at whatever it is you want to do."
The actress also explained that she accepted one of the lead roles in Robert Rodriguez's Spy Kids 4: All The Time in the World so that her children could enjoy it.
"I don't know if I even would have done the kids' movie if I wasn't a parent," Alba said.
Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World was released in US and UK cinemas this weekend.
