Charlie Sheen, Brooke Mueller "working on mending bridges"

Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller have spent the weekend together in Mexico.

The former spouses, who finalised their divorce in May, enjoyed a short vacation to celebrate Mueller's birthday. The actress turned 34 on Friday.

Sheen told TMZ that the two are not planning to get back together, insisting that they are just "good friends trying to be great parents".

"[We are] working on mending the bridges, replanting scorched earth. The goal is harmony," Sheen explained.

The two were also spotted together in late July when Mueller was granted temporary leave from her new rehab programme in order to join Sheen at his Hollywood home.

Sheen insisted that the visit was the first step in repairing their strained relationship, saying at the time, "Harmony is our goal. Sunday was a wonderful start."

Mueller headed to Mexico last month for an "extreme" plant treatment to help cure her addictions. Sheen told the website that this weekend's trip was also a reward for the actress's commitment to the rehab programme.
