Jesse Metcalfe on sex symbol status: "There is definitely more to me"

Jesse Metcalfe has said that there is "more" to him than being a "sex symbol".

The actor, best known for his role as gardener John Rowland in Desperate Housewives, told The Mirror that he hears "X-rated" chat-up lines from female fans.

Metcalfe told the paper: "There is definitely more to me than my physical appearance, but I have to embrace it. It's not the worst thing in the world, having that sex symbol status.

"You need to have a bit of a sense of humour about yourself, though - I get asked to take my top off on a daily basis."

Metcalfe continued: "I do have the cheesiest of cheesy chat-up lines used on me. Like, 'Will you come do my gardening?' or a variation on that. It's quite shocking how X-rated it gets. I've even had women chasing me down the street."

However, the 32-year-old - who previously dated Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle - confirmed that he remains single.

Metcalfe admitted: "Having a profile means you have to be cautious of who you let into your world as you don't know if they're being genuine or not, but it's more that it can be a strain on your relationships.

"The reason so many celebrities try to keep things secret is you want the chance to get to know someone without the glare of public scrutiny."

The actor, who will play Christopher Ewing in the new series of Dallas, added that he would would "love" to marry and have children. "I just don't think it will be any time soon," he said.
