Police were called to the Late Late Show's LA studios yesterday when employees opened a letter containing a series of threatening messages and a powder.
Authorities determined that the substance was actually cornmeal, not anthrax, after conducting a series of tests, reports TMZ.
Ferguson made light of the incident on Tuesday night's Late Late Show episodes by joking that he was first and foremost concerned for his own safety.
The comic quipped: "It was a very scary situation. It was really frightening. My first concern, of course, was for my staff. And by 'staff' I mean 'penis'."
Police are still trying to determine who sent the letter.
Last week, Ferguson's fellow CBS late-night host David Letterman received threats from jihadists after joking about the death of accused terrorist leader Ilyas Kashmiri.
Letterman addressed the matter during his monologue on Monday when he likened his studio audience to a massive "human shield".
