The basketball player began a three-day training course on video production on Tuesday at Funny or Die's LA offices.
Griffin said he hoped that writing, shooting and starring in a series of sketches for the comedy website will give him a better understanding of video production.
He told The AP: "Just to get an inside look at how things are run here is exciting to me. I don't know what interns at Funny or Die are like, but I'm about to find out, I guess."
NBA athletes are currently on work stoppage as the Players Union and team owners attempt to rectify contract disputes.
The start of the NBA season could be delayed indefinitely or cancelled if a new agreement can't be reached.
Funny or Die, which was founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, has previously featured Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan and Jerry Seinfeld in its clips.
