The 'Careless Whisper' singer has made an impact on the social networking site in the past few months, after paying tribute to the late Amy Winehouse and celebrating the News of the World's closure.
Michael told WENN: "Of course, within a week, because there was barely anything else to do in [prison], I was back hooked on the nicotine.
"Now I'm trying not to smoke cigarettes - what I've found is tweeting gives me something to do."
The star has previously opened up about his problems with addiction, claiming that taking drugs is an inevitable consequence of his personality.
Michael, 48, recently confirmed his split from long-time boyfriend Kenny Goss.
