Reality TV personalities have apparently been banned from receiving their own stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Vice President for Media Relations and Producer for the Hollywood Walk of Fame Ana Martinez made the statement via the project's Facebook page on Monday.

"Someone asked if we give reality show characters stars? Hell to the No!" she wrote in a status update.

Martinez later spoke to CNN to clarify the comments, explaining that "nominees have to meet the committee's criteria - longevity in their field of entertainment, awards and other honours, and philanthropic work" - in order to be considered for a star.

"It's just not on the radar for us right now," she said.

Earlier this month, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Danny DeVito was named as the latest recipient of his own star, while Modern Family's Ed O'Neill is to also be honoured.

More than 2,400 celebrities are currently included on the walk, which extends along 15 blocks of Los Angeles's legendary Hollywood Boulevard.
