The actor, who recently starred in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is also unable to watch himself on camera.
"I can't take it," Nighy told PA about his film reviews. "I can't pay the price so I don't do it any more.
"I never used to be able to resist reading them, got burned a couple of times and thought, 'I can't take it!' Similarly if I'm doing theatre and I'm told I peak in the second act during a particular passage, that's not good for me either, because I'll become too wonderful."
The Love Actually star added that he hates the auditioning process in the film industry and feels lucky that he is able to avoid it at this point in his career.
"It can't be overstated how wonderful it is not to have to audition any more," he admitted. "Any actor will tell you, it's like Christmas."
Night recently signed on to appear in Jonathan Liebesman's fantasy sequel Wrath of the Titans alongside Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes.
In May it was reported that Nighy had begun talks to join the cast of Len Wiseman's forthcoming reboot of 1990 sci-fi Total Recall.
