Natalie Bassingthwaighte "feels sorry" for ex-husband

Natalie Bassingthwaighte has revealed that she "feels sorry" for her ex-husband.

The Australian singer, TV presenter and actress, who is now a judge on the Aussie version of The X Factor, said that she tries to be "okay" with the fact that Graham Wilmott recently spoke out about their short-lived 1998 marriage after years of silence.

44-year-old Sydney chef Wilmott told The Daily Telegraph: "I wish her all the best in her new life. She seems happy in her photos. She's really made it with her career and I'm really proud of her - I always was proud of her.

"We met in a restaurant. I suppose it happened pretty fast. Soon enough we realised we just were on two different paths. It wasn't meant to be. I was in hospitality and she was just starting out in the business. She was at a very young age and she'd been working for a long time even then to make it big. I just knew she was going to be big and become a great actress. She had a lot of talent and drive."

When asked to comment on why Bassingthwaighte looks so different now from her wedding pictures 13 years ago, Wilmott responded: "Maybe she's had something done, who knows."

Bassingthwaighte, who is due to marry long-term partner Cameron McGlinchey later this year, has now responded to Wilmott, telling the Matt and Jo radio show: "I know that [the media] have been trying to chase him for years.

"I kind of feel sorry for him to be honest, but you know he's a good guy, we had a great time. I feel like I'm getting married in a minute. The last thing I want to talk about is my ex-husband. I think someone's going. 'C'mon, tell me what you think'... leave him alone, the poor guy, we've both moved on. It's life, you know."

Bassingthwaighte added: "I try to be okay with it. It's the same as the ex-husband. If he needed to get that off his chest then that's his thing."

The Australian version of The X Factor starts this Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Seven.
