Seth Green applies to legally change his name

Seth Green has put in an application to legally change his name.

The actor, who is best known for his role as Daniel Osbourne in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was born Seth Benjamin Gesshel-Green but has decided to remove his mother's maiden name to make his surname single-barrelled.

According to TMZ, Green filed papers at Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 11 and asked the judge to shorten his name to Seth Green in order "to reflect [his] professional stage name".

The star is now required to publicly declare his new name in a weekly local newspaper for four consecutive weeks and will appear in court again in October to make the name change official.

Green married Walk The Line star Clare Grant in May last year. Soon after their ceremony, they said that they were not in a rush to start a family.

"We might be together a long time before we think about kids," she told People magazine.
