Bernie Ecclestone's daughter Petra marries in £5 million ceremony

Bernie Ecclestone's daughter Petra has got married in a lavish ceremony.

The 22-year-old daughter of the motor racing billionaire exchanged vows with 28-year-old businessman James Stunt in an Italian ceremony on Saturday that reportedly cost £5 million ($8.2 million).

According to South Africa's Independent Online, virtually every aspect of the big day was imported from overseas; a Rolls-Royce from the US, furniture from the UK, white roses from France and 100 chefs - also from France.

The wedding took place at the Castello Odeschalchi castle in Bracciano near Rome where Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes got married in 2006. The nuptials were attended by celebrity guests including Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and socialite Paris Hilton.

Entertainment was provided by a 20-member choir and an 18-piece string section from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra during the day. Evening performers included Eric Clapton, Andrea Bocelli and the Black Eyed Peas, and the party ended at midnight with a £100,000 ($164,235) fireworks display and circling helicopter.

Petra wore an £80,000 ($131,389) Vera Wang gown, diamond tiara and earrings.

One member of staff at the event said: "I've worked at hundreds of weddings but I've never known one as over the top as this. Nothing was left to chance and it was very stage-managed. I don't think it flowed at all.

"The amount of money spent was vulgar and the cost to the environment... has not been considered at all. Hardly anything was sourced locally, everything was flown in or shipped and it was all quite ridiculous."
