The Olympic gold medalist hit the headlines in May when he sought medical help to overcome his alcohol and cocaine dependency.
Boxing's 'Golden Boy' has opened up about his struggle with drugs, revealing that he even considered suicide at the height of his addiction.
De La Hoya told Univision: "There were drugs, my drug of choice was cocaine and alcohol, hmm. Cocaine was recent. The last two years. I depended more in the alcohol than the cocaine.
"It took me to a place where I felt safe, it took me to a place where I felt as if nobody can say anything to me, it took me to a place where I just can reach out and grab my mum."
De La Hoya also said: "Rock bottom was recently. Within [a] couple of years, just thinking if my life was even worth it. I don't have the strength, I don't have the courage to take my own life but I was thinking about it."
The former boxing champion also admitted to cheating on Millie Corretjer, his wife of nearly ten years.
"We are obviously not talking a Tiger Woods here, but I was unfaithful," he said.
De La Hoya now insists that he's been off drugs and alcohol for three months and regularly attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings to maintain his sobriety.
