The Hollywood couple announced plans to divorce in July after seven years of marriage, though it has since been suggested that they actually separated months prior.
Anthony claimed in a new interview with Nightline that he and Lopez came to the decision to divorce "jointly" as they realised that their relationship could not have gone on the way it was.
"I'll tell you that it wasn't something sensationalistic happening. It was a realization on both our parts. So, you know, it wasn't shocking. These things happen. It was a decision that we made jointly," Anthony explained in the footage, which will receive a 'first look' preview on Good Morning America, then air in full on Thursday night.

"This is not a funeral. This is not a burial. This is just two people who came together and just realised... I'm saying that it wasn't sustainable the way it was, and that's that."
Anthony has admitted that he will "always love" Lopez regardless of their marital problems.
It was recently reported that the couple fell out over the American Idol judge's belief in Scientology and desire to raise their two children in the faith.
