Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has said that he was kicked off a recent flight for wearing his trousers too low.

The 'Basket Case' singer claimed that during a Southwest Airlines flight on Thursday evening he refused an attendant's request to pull his trousers up higher and was then asked to leave the plane.

"Just got kicked off a Southwest flight because my pants sagged too low!" Armstrong tweeted shortly after the incident. "What the f**k? No joke!"

However, shortly after Armstrong's incensed Twitter post, a representative for the airline replied, apologising for the inconvenience.

"Very sorry for your experience tonight, someone from our customer relations team will reach out to you to get more details," they replied.

Earlier this year Green Day confirmed they had begun work on their ninth studio album.
