The model and singer was initially rumoured to be expecting her first child with husband and French president Nicolas Sarkozy in May, and confirmed the pregnancy in July in an interview with Nice-Matin.
In a new appearance on Sept a Huit, Bruni insisted that no photos of the child will be published and that she will avoid paparazzi whenever possible.
"You don't have a child for the [photo] gallery. [My] position as the wife of the head of state has made me even more defensive. I understand the media interest, and I don't see any inconvenience in it for myself or my husband, but when it concerns the children, it's not impossible," she explained.
"I will do everything to protect this infant, and I'll be absolutely rigorous. I will never show photos of this child. I will never expose this child."
Asked about speculation that she will give birth to a son, Bruni responded: "A boy? I don't know myself, so the press knows better than I do."
