Kimberley Walsh has said she is sorry for smoking cannabis after being caught on camera with a spliff.
She immediately owned up when shown the photo, which was taken at friend's house party last New Year’s Eve.
“I realise what I did was wrong, especially as I’m in a position where fans look up to you," she told The Sun. "I got caught up in a moment and I’m sorry.”
A friend defended Walsh and said she regretted the picture had become public. She told the paper: “It wasn’t like Kimberley was at a nightclub parading around with a spliff.
“It was something which happened in a private home. She never expected the photo to emerge. Now Kimberley is completely mortified that her smoking has come to light.
“She is ashamed about the bad example she could set to fans of Girls Aloud, some of whom are very young indeed.”
