In late August, the Drive star was filmed intervening in an argument between two men on the streets of New York City. The men were reportedly fighting over a piece of artwork.
In a new interview, Gosling revealed that he regrets his decision to break up the altercation, claiming that his involvement made the incident weirder.
"I'm embarrassed," Gosling told MTV News. "I should have just kept my nose out of it."
The actor went on to explain the incident: "The guy was a fan, and so he wanted the painting so bad he had to steal it because he couldn't afford it."
Gosling continued: "So he finally steals the painting and he's getting his ass kicked by his hero, and then the guy from The Notebook shows up and makes it weirder. The whole thing, nobody wins. Nobody won."
The actor is rumoured to be dating his Place Beyond the Pines co-star Eva Mendes.
