Michael Clarke's mother is recovering from a brain haemorrhage.

The Australian cricket captain, who is currently in Kandy playing against Sri Lanka, said that he was very "thankful" when he discovered that mum Debbie was back at home recovering after two weeks in hospital.

Clarke refused to comment on Debbie's condition, but told The Daily Telegraph: "Thankfully everybody is doing well. Family means everything to me."

Earlier this year, Clarke's father Les received surgery to remove a tumour from his face, after battling Hodgkin's disease and prostate cancer previously. The sports star's grandfather then had a heart attack but later recovered.

His then-pregnant sister Leanne was rushed to hospital in July for an emergency delivery, after which mother and baby were kept in the hospital for weeks.

In May, Clarke moved out of his multi-million penthouse apartment in Bondi to move closer to his parents in Lilli Pilli. He said at the time: "I'm looking forward to getting back there. The sun is shining and I'm with my family and friends; it couldn't be better."

Last year, Clarke split from long-term partner Lara Bingle after her involvement in a nude photograph scandal. He has allegedly been dating model Kyly Boldy for a few months, while Bingle has been romantically linked to singer Jason Derulo and rugby player Danny Cipriani.
