Simon Cowell refuses to discuss Mezhgan Hussainy engagement

Simon Cowell has refused to answer questions about whether he is engaged.

The X Factor USA judge got engaged to make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy last year, but a number of stories have since suggested that the wedding may not go ahead.

Appearing on The Howard Stern Show, Cowell declined to comment on the speculation over his relationship with Hussainy.

When asked why he appeared "embarrassed" to discuss his fiancée, Cowell replied: "If we were having this conversation off the radio, I could have a normal conversation with you."

Stern countered: "Why is the question 'Are you engaged?' so painful to you?" Cowell answered: "Like I said, it's something I would need to say to you off the radio."

"Why?" asked Stern, to which Cowell declared: "Because it is."

The former American Idol mogul also claimed during the interview that he was once set up on a blind date with Charlie Sheen's ex-wife Denise Richards - a claim which Richards herself later denied.
