Police reportedly took Brown into custody last month, after discovering he was drunk while citing him for driving without a licence plate.
Law enforcement sources later claimed that the actor was more than the legal blood alcohol limit when he was arrested.
Brown's manager Reno Rankin has now claimed the matter is a misunderstanding and insisted that the star had no intention of driving, according to TMZ.
Brown apparently invited a female friend over to listen to his new CD and drank a few glasses of wine before he waited for her in the parking lot outside his home.
Rankin said Brown and his friend reportedly sat in his car once she arrived and listened to his music, but never drove "anywhere at all".
The star's rep says police soon spotted Brown and the woman sitting in the car and noticed that there was no licence plate on the vehicle.
During their investigation, police determined that Brown was drunk and arrested him for being intoxicated while behind the wheel.
Hollywood police haven't commented on Brown's version of events.
Brown has been ordered to attend a court hearing later this month.
