The 'Back To Black' singer passed away at her Camden home on July 23. Toxicology results found that the 27-year-old had no illegal substances in her body at the time of her death, though the prescription drug Librium - used to fight the withdrawal symptoms of alcoholism - was apparently found.
Speaking on Anderson Cooper's new show Anderson in a joint interview with Amy's mother Janis, Mitch claimed that the young star had suffered a seizure caused by her extreme attempts to get clean.
"What happened to Amy wasn't anything to do with drugs," he reaffirmed. "Everything Amy did, she did to excess. She drank to excess and did detox to excess.
"The periods of abstinence were becoming longer, and the periods of drinking were becoming shorter. It was heading in the right direction."
The full interview will air during the premiere of Anderson on Monday.
Mitch previously said that he was "pleased to set the record straight" on Amy's passing.
