Speaking to Daybreak on ITV1, Mitch Winehouse said that Amy did not properly listen to the advice of health professionals when she tried to stop drinking.
Mitch said of his daughter's death: "We know it wasn't drugs, she'd been clear of drugs for three years. I'd be banging on about it but no-one would listen to me.
"We got a letter from the doctor about three months previously saying that what she was doing - drinking and then stopping drinking - is dangerous.
"She has to detox medically under supervision, and like any other 27-year-old, she thought, 'Well, that doesn't apply to me'."
Mitch added: "The truth is the responsibility lies with Amy. She was told about detoxing under medical supervision, she chose to ignore it.
"That's the reality. And I certainly don't blame myself or anyone else in my family. It was just a horrible accident."

Mitch again said that Amy's ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil was not to blame for her death, but added that it was Fielder-Civil who introduced his daughter to drugs.
"What happened was that Blake was seeing Amy, but we didn't know what a destructive influence he was," Mitch said.
"He's said it himself. It's unquestionable. I don't blame him for Amy's death, I blame him for her situation with the drugs."
Mitch has today launched The Amy Winehouse Foundation on what would have been his daughter's 28th birthday.
