Demi Lovato has credited her recent rehab stint with saving her life.

The former Sonny With A Chance actress sought treatment for an eating disorder last year and admitted afterwards that she still faces a "daily battle" to stay healthy.

Speaking on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show to air Tuesday, Lovato explained that she requested help after her personal life began to decline at "crazy speeds".

"So many things were going great in my life, and then all of a sudden my personal life just went down at crazy speeds," she told DeGeneres. "I had a negative breakdown and it changed my life forever.

"But if I hadn't gone into treatment, I don't know if, one, I'd even be sitting here today, [or] two, if I'd be alive today."

Lovato added that she hoped her successful recovery would make her an inspirational figure for other young women.

"There was nobody out there for me to look at and say maybe this is unhealthy," she recalled. "I want to be that for a 13-year-old girl at home deciding whether or not to eat dinner, or an 18-year-old girl deciding whether or not to keep her breakfast down."
