Sarah Jessica Parker: 'I Don't Know How She Does It role is very familiar'

Sarah Jessica Parker has said that she identifies with the working mother she plays in I Don't Know How She Does It.

The actress, who is a mother of three, suggested that I Don't Know How She Does It is an accurate depiction of the difficulties many women face.

"There's a lot that was very, very familiar. Perhaps more importantly, I thought it was a story that would be enormously resonant with a lot of other women. Women that are working in the home as much as outside the home - it's their story," Parker told USA Today.

She continued: "[My character's] not wealthy. She's middle management. She's telling a story that's not always told. It's like an essay on parenting in these specific modern times. Women want so much to be all things to all people, to be loved at home and be well-regarded professionally."

Parker went on to say that she understands that it can be a struggle for women to put the needs of their family ahead of their personal goals.

"I've been working for a lot, a lot, a lot of years. I've never been a super-ambitious person, but I do understand you're working towards something, which is better opportunities based on the kind of work you've tried to produce," she added. "It's been hard to say no. It's the choices you have to make as a mother."

Parker previously revealed that she and husband Matthew Broderick are already planning for when their three kids leave home.

I Don't Know How She Does It is now playing in US and UK cinemas.
