Chris Evans 'stops drinking after night with Prince Harry'

Chris Evans has revealed that he has quit drinking after a "weird" night out with Prince Harry.

The Radio 2 DJ spent an evening with the royal after a charity event at Canary Wharf. He explained that despite the night being "nothing crazy", it convinced him to stop drinking.

"It was a few hours of semi-civilised male merrymaking," he told Now magazine.

"But I have never felt like I did the next day. Not hungover, just plain weird. I love life, but for a moment it became obvious life didn't love me."

Evans added that he had only spent two days without drinking alcohol before, and that he has been considering sobriety for some time.

"It's been a long time coming - 45 years, five months and 17 days, to be precise. This will come as a major shock to people who know me, and may even cause a few minor heart attacks where several restaurant and bar owners in the South East are concerned," he quipped.

"I have been thinking about it for a good while now. And I simply have to do it. I want to know what I'm like completely sober."

Chris Evans underwent surgery for pre-cancerous growths on his bowel earlier this year.
