Peaches Geldof: 'It upsets me that people think I'm an airhead socialite'

Peaches Geldof has said that she is upset to be thought of as an "airhead socialite".

The 22-year-old daughter of Sir Bob Geldof and Paula Yates told Metro that the biggest misconception about her is that she is "really thick".

"I don't think I'm the most intelligent person ever but I'm not stupid," she said. "It upsets me when people think I'm an airhead socialite. I don't go out much.

"When I was a teenager, exploring that sort of thing, it was all photographed so it looked worse than it was. The press wanted a poster child for 'partying youth' and I became that, but it's so far removed from what I like doing - which is staying at home reading and watching films."

She continued: "I didn't have a hugely Amish clean-living life but I was never this hedonistic Thomas De Quincey party girl. It's like reading about someone who doesn't exist. It's depressing."

Geldof also hit back at criticism of her short-lived ITV2 series OMG!, which saw her get to know people with unusual lifestyles.

"I did it in a very tongue-in-cheek way and maybe people didn't get that. It was very light-hearted," she said. "I did it as two fingers up to people who thought I wouldn't do it.

"It was a bubblegum camp thing, like Eurotrash and John Waters, I was upset some people didn't get it. Those who did chuckled along."
