Hugh Jackman: 'My wife hates it when I look good'

Hugh Jackman has revealed that his wife hates it when he looks good.

The 42-year-old Australian actor, who gained a reported 14kg to play boxing promoter Charlie Kenton in his latest action movie Real Steel, said that wife of 15 years Deborra-Lee Furness doesn't think it's right for him to look "better" than her.

Jackman told News.com.au: "Overall, Deb would say to me my job is to be out of shape so that she can look as good as possible. So she's always upset with me if I'm in really good shape.

"She's like, 'I think you're forgetting the contract of marriage - ultimately everything is about me looking better, so enough with the training.'"

He also revealed that 55-year-old Furness prefers him when he's not rippling with muscle, saying: "Let me give you a little insight into my wife. I met her on a prison drama where I had tats all over my body and a mullet, and that turned her on. She likes the bad boys."

Real Steel is a robot boxing drama set in 2020 that tells the story of the relationship between Jackman's character and his estranged son Max.

Furness recently revealed that it "hurts" when the media criticise her appearance. She said: "I know I'm being judged and anyone who works in the public eye will get some negativity at some point.

"It can be tough and it hurts. I can be very tough on myself. Occasionally, I hear or read something cruel and I'm shocked."
