Chris Evans breaks sober vow after nine days

Chris Evans has broken his pledge to quit drinking after just nine days.

The Radio 2 DJ announced in a magazine column last week that he intended to stay sober until his 46th birthday in April.

However, photographs published by The Mirror show him drinking a pint of beer at a charity golf tournament in St Andrews, Fife on Wednesday.

Evans explained that his original decision had been sparked by the particularly painful aftermath of a recent boozing session with Prince Harry.

"I have never felt like I did the next day," he said. "Not hungover, just plain weird. I love life, but for a moment it became obvious life didn't love me.

"It's been a long time coming... I have been thinking about it for a good while now. And I simply have to do it. I want to know what I'm like completely sober."

Evans underwent surgery for pre-cancerous growths on his bowel earlier this year.
