Townshend blasted for online story

Rock legend Pete Townshend has taken down a short story that detailed a fictional sexual encounter between two teenagers after coming under fire from children's charities.
In 2003 the guitarist and songwriter was arrested during a police investigation of child pornography websites. He received a caution and was put on the sex offenders register, despite claims that he only visited the site to research his autobiography.
Speaking of the story, entitled The Comedian, a spokesperson for children's charity Stop It Now! told BBC News Online: "It is most ill-advised, especially considering the popularity of his music and the fact lots of people look up to him."
Michele Elliot, director of Kidscape, branded the story as "a form of titillation".
On his blog, the rocker admits: "I have to accept that even if I write fiction I do so as someone who is well known and carry my past and controversy with me."
The online statement from the star recognised that the tale had "upset certain people". Townshend added, "I sincerely do not wish to offend anyone".
However, the Who star also apologised to "those of you who were beginning to enjoy it" for removing his work.
