Dieter Brummer's assault court case has been adjourned until 2012.

The 35-year-old Australian actor, who is best known for his role as Captain Troy Miller in Neighbours, faces charges over an allegedly drunken incident with security staff at Melbourne's Crown casino following this year's Logie Awards ceremony.

According to the Herald Sun, Brummer attended Melbourne Magistrates Court this morning and requested that the case be adjourned. He was successful and is now scheduled to return to court in March next year.

In addition to the unlawful assault charges, Brummer is also accused of intentionally and recklessly causing injury, being drunk in a public place and behaving in a riotous manner.

After Brummer accepted the role on Neighbours, executive producer Susan Bower said: "We are delighted that Dieter is joining us and very excited about the character he is playing. The Captain will certainly leave his mark on Ramsay Street."

Brummer is also known for playing Shane Parrish in Home and Away and police detective Trevor Haken in crime drama Underbelly.
