Taye Diggs on Idina Menzel: 'My mum knew I'd marry a white woman'

Taye Diggs has said that his mother always predicted that he would marry a white woman.

The Private Practice star married actress Idina Menzel in 2003 after a seven-year romance forged during their stint on the Broadway production of Rent.

During an interview on Sirius XM's Sway in the Morning, Diggs said that both his own family and Menzel's have been nothing but supportive of their interracial romance.

"My mother said, 'I told you!' She always thought - I hate this, but I'm being honest - she said, 'I always knew you were gonna marry a white girl!'" he recalled.

"I hated her when I was young for saying that, but eventually, for whatever reason, that's what happened. She loves my wife."

Diggs went on to say that Menzel's parents were accepting of her relationship with him, adding: "I don't know what they felt on the inside, but I was very fortunate. They're very loving and accepting. They're great grandparents. I can't lie, I had no issues there."

The couple are parents to a 2-year-old son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs.
