Leonardo DiCaprio, Blake Lively confirm split

Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively have confirmed that they have split.

A friend of the couple claimed yesterday that Lively and DiCaprio decided to end their romance after five months of dating in order to focus on their work.

Representatives for both stars have now confirmed the break-up to Us Weekly.

Lively and DiCaprio plan to "remain friends" in spite of the separation, their reps insisted.

The couple were first snapped hugging each other at a party on Steven Spielberg's yacht in May, while in France to attend the 64th Cannes Film Festival.

Rumours of a possible break-up first emerged in July, but DiCaprio and Lively were soon seen biking in New York City.

Lively celebrated her 24th birthday in August by joining DiCaprio in Australia, where he is currently filming a big-screen version of F Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.

DiCaprio recently said that he has no idea how much money his movies take in.
