Katie Underwood has revealed that motherhood can be "isolating".

The 35-year-old Australian singer and former Bardot member, who recently welcomed twin daughters Charlotte and Zoe with partner Darren McCoy, said that the "hardest" thing about having two children is the "sleep deprivation".

Underwood told OK! magazine: "They're gorgeous little girls. They're just starting to coo and make conversation sounds. Already, I find it hard to remember life without them.

"The hardest thing, of course, is the sleep deprivation. Thankfully, they both sleep fairly well but the longest time I get to sleep without a break is about three hours. I've had to draw on my experience of being sleep-deprived back in the Popstars days!"

Underwood added that she appreciates the support she has from McCoy, saying: "There have been days where I've felt a bit depressed, but I put that down to the lack of sleep. Darren is fantastic. He gets up and handles some of the feeds too.

"I miss things like being able to leave home at a moment's notice. I can see why some new mums feel trapped and lonely at home, to be honest - it's the lack of independence. It can be very isolating. The key is having people around."

A number of Australian celebrities have welcomed new babies this year. Myer ambassador Rebecca Judd gave birth to first son Oscar in July, model Kristy Hinze had a baby girl called Dylan last month, while TV presenter Grant Denyer has said that becoming a dad to daughter Sailor has changed him.
