The rapper said that she became tired of "having doors slammed on my face" and worried that her hard work would never pay off.
"I felt like nothing was working," Minaj said in November's issue of Cosmopolitan. "It was one dead end after another.
"At one point I was like, 'What would happen if I just didn't wake up?' That's how I felt. Like maybe I should just take my life."
Since being signed by the record label Young Money, Minaj has released her debut album Pink Friday and scored seven charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time.
Minaj also features on Willow Smith's new single 'Fireball' which was unveiled last week.
