Joey Lawrence adopts dog for $1,000

Joey Lawrence has revealed that he has adopted a dog.

The Melissa & Joey star announced that he paid $1,000 (£643) to bring his new canine companion to the United States.

"She was just the most amazing little thing ever," Lawrence told People. "We had to bring her home. It cost me, like, $1,000 to get her into the country, but it was worth it. She's just an amazing animal."

The actor, who already has a golden retriever named Dakota, went on to speak about his dogs' favourite toys.

"Balls. They love their tennis balls," Lawrence said. "Don't waste your money on all the trinkets or the $50 case of balls. They gnaw, they rip off all the stuff, getting them down to just the rubber."

In July, Melissa & Joey was renewed for a second season by ABC.

Last year, Lawrence was injured on the set of his new TV show, allegedly ripping his cornea.
