Teatime talk show host Paul O'Grady was taken to hospital on Friday after suffering from chest pains.
"It does appear he has had a heart attack," a friend of the star told ITV. "He was taken to hospital with chest pains this morning."
In April 2002, the then-46 year old O'Grady suffered a heart attack and, after undergoing surgery to widen a blocked artery, vowed he would change his lifestyle - including giving up smoking.
A spokesperson for Channel 4 said: "We are shocked and concerned by the news, and along with Paul's many fans we are wishing him all the very best."
