Kanye West appears at Occupy Wall Street protest - video

Kanye West joined the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City on Monday.

The 'Power' musician accompanied rap mogul Russell Simmons to meet with demonstrators, who have been holding rallies in Zuccotti Park for nearly a month.

Simmons took to Twitter to cite West's appearance at Occupy Wall Street as a pivotal moment for the movement.

He wrote: "This morning I applaud @kanyewest for using his celebrity to help others His appearance yesterday mattered!! #occupywallstreet"

Roseanne Barr, Susan Sarandon and writer Naomi Klein are among the many celebrities who have attended Occupy Wall Street rallies.

Filmmaker Michael Moore has claimed that the protests are "just the beginning" of a political movement, while Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley said he a felt a responsibility to meet with the demonstrators.
