Clooney, who plays a presidential candidate in his new political drama The Ides of March, claimed that the film served only to discourage any interest in running for office.
The actor told ABC News: "I'm having a pretty good time right now in life… Putting out The Ides of March, I play a guy running for president. Again it starts these questions of, 'Would you ever want to run for politics or be in politics?'
"And I'm like - look at my life! And look at everyone else's life in politics! Why would I ever want to do that? I'm having a very good time."
Clooney was also quizzed on whether he is "disillusioned" by President Barack Obama's first term of office.
"No, I'm disillusioned by the people who are disillusioned by Obama, quite honestly. Democrats eat their own… I'm a firm believer in sticking by and sticking up for the people that you've elected. There's a big effort [by Obama] to get a lot of things done," he said.
Clooney recently revealed that The Ides of March is inspired by his father Nick Clooney's work as a journalist.
The Ides of March is now playing in the US and opens on October 28 in the UK.
