'Supernatural' Jared Padalecki and wife Genevieve expecting baby

Supernatural star Jared Padalecki has announced that he and his wife Genevieve are expecting their first child together.

The actor, who plays Sam Winchester in the CW series, revealed the news on his Twitter account on Tuesday.

Padalecki had initially joked about speculation that a baby was on the way, before confirming the reports are true.

He wrote: "Hey guys - I've been hearing a lotta rumours and getting a lotta questions so I'd like to go ahead and say that OF COURSE I'm not pregnant! (sic)"

However, he went on to confirm: "OK y'all I'd rather you officially hear it from me.. So, yes. Genevieve is pregnant. We'll be welcoming a new member to our family in 2012 :)"

One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray was among those who congratulated Padalecki via Twitter following the announcement.

Padalecki and Cortese, who starred in Supernatural as the demon Ruby, married in Cortese's hometown of Sun Valley, Idaho in 2010.
