The Sex and the City actress announced earlier this month that she completed a domestic adoption two months ago and is now mother to Gemma Rose Davis.
"Having this wish come true is even more gratifying than I ever had imagined," she said at the time about the new addition.
A friend of Davis has since told US Weekly that the star has always been fond of the idea of adoption, saying: "[She] has been thinking about doing this for a while.
"She's really loving and caring. She'll make a great mum."
Earlier this year, Davis was awarded the Humane Society of the United States' 2011 Wyler Award in recognition of her preservation work with and activism for African elephants.
She also said earlier this year that she is sceptical about any plans for a Sex and the City prequel.
