The 'I Have Nothing' singer and a flight attendant apparently began arguing just before takeoff when Houston refused a request to buckle her seatbelt, reports TMZ.
Houston apparently allowed another flight attendant to buckle her belt only after she was told that she would be ejected from the plane if she didn't comply.
A friend of the singer insisted that Houston was not intoxicated at the time, saying: "[Whitney] overreacted a little bit after missing an earlier flight but she's still 100% sober and was on the way to Detroit for her first day of shooting a new movie."
A rep for Houston has not commented on the matter.
Houston spent time in rehab over the summer to help overcome drug and substance abuse issues.
She will next co-star with Jordin Sparks and Mike Epps in a remake of the Supremes biopic Sparkle.
