The singer, who is currently number one on the Billboard Hot 100, recorded her latest album 21 in Malibu, but admitted she has no plans to move there full time.
"I am a London girl through and through," she told The Sun. "I felt very uncomfortable in Malibu. I felt at home with my producer Rick Rubin and the studio was incredible, but it's not my kind of area.
"Everyone lives behind a gate as they have so much money they don't leave. It was a very surreal experience. I'm from a pretty rough area in London, so working in Malibu was a dream - but then I got brought back down to earth."
She added: "Everyone has to drive there. I thought I would walk to a cute little waterfront cafe and hang out, but you can't walk anywhere there."
Adele recently insisted that smoking is not the reason she is suffering from laryngitis, instead blaming it on her excessive talking.
