The Star Trek actor was outed earlier this weekend by entertainment writer Mark Harris, who tweeted a message of support to the former Heroes star for coming out.
"Congratulations to Zachary Quinto, out and proud in the new issue of New York Magazine," Harris tweeted this weekend.
Quinto's interview with New York magazine has now been published and sees the actor talking openly about his sexuality for the first time while discussing his Broadway stint in Angels in America
"As a gay man, it made me feel like there's still so much work to be done, and there's still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed," Quinto explained.
The actor will portray a gay man in several episodes of Glee creator Ryan Murphy's new FX series American Horror Story.
Quinto, who starred in the 2009 Star Trek reboot, recently said he supports director JJ Abrams's decision not to rush work on a sequel.
