The Academy Award nominee's friend Octavia Spencer revealed that Davis officially welcomed a daughter named Genesis into their home last week.
Spencer made the announcement while honouring Davis at the ELLE Women in Hollywood gala on Monday evening.
Davis first revealed that she and Tennon were in the process of "domestically" adopting a child in August.
The couple have no other children together, but Tennon is the father of two from prior relationships.
Davis and Tennon, a fellow actor, tied the knot in 2003.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, co-starring Davis and Tom Hanks, opens in limited release in US cinemas on December 25 and in the UK on February 3, 2012.
