The Star Trek actor, who came out in an interview with New York Magazine on Sunday, revealed that he did not anticipate the amount of coverage that the news received.
"I never ever imagined that it would be - I mean, I guess I figured people would figure it out, hear about it, but I didn't know it would be like global news!" Quinto told Vulture.
"I was like, 'What?' It was really crazy to me. People from all over the world were reaching out to me on the internet, on Twitter. Social media makes it a lot easier now. I'm just really honoured and thrilled and grateful."
Quinto has since said that he is "proud" of going public with his sexuality.
The actor recently revealed that he is happy the sequel to Star Trek has been delayed, saying that he supports JJ Abrams's decision not to rush the film into production.
