The Last Man Standing actor explained that he has considered himself an "intellectual Christian" since his childhood, but chooses to only rarely discuss his beliefs in public.
Allen told Parade: "On a philosophical level, I'm very religious. I call myself an intellectual Christian. I've been seeking answers and information about Christianity, as well as Judaism, Islam and Hinduism, since my father died [when I was a kid], trying to explain life and death.
"My brother put it best a long time ago when he said, 'You're a lot more perceptive than I ever imagined'."
Allen also revealed that he is still learning from the mistakes of his first marriage as he and second wife Jane Hajduk raise their 2-year-old daughter Elizabeth.
"I was gone so much in my first marriage. I love the moments when I engage with my youngest daughter now," he said. "It's not my thing to sit on the ground and play tea party, but I'll do it because it's a moment that will stick with me forever."
Allen has claimed that his new sitcom Last Man Standing is very similar to his previous hit Home Improvement.
Last Man Standing airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC.
