Kimberley Walsh: 'Shrek musical more nerve-wracking than Girls Aloud'

Kimberley Walsh has said that taking on the role of Princess Fiona in Shrek: The Musical felt like the "perfect thing to do".
The Girls Aloud star stepped into the role earlier than originally planned, taking over from pregnant Amanda Holden.

Speaking after last night's official debut - where celebrity guests included Denise Van Outen and Bill Bailey - Walsh admitted that she found the part more nerve-wracking than performing with Girls Aloud.
"Theatre is really intimate and you can't get away with anything so in that respect it's probably more nerve-wracking to do this," she said. "Plus, with the girls, even though you might be in front of 20,000 people, you've got each other. If anything goes wrong someone else will just cover it up."
Walsh added of playing the feisty princess: "You get to be a princess but with a bit of an edge, so I thought 'I can do this'."

Walsh - pictured above with co-stars Nigel Harman, Nigel Lindsay and Richard Blackwood - has already received support from bandmates Cheryl Cole and Nicola Roberts, who watched her first performance at the London theatre.
"Cheryl and Nicola loved it. They were so excited to come and watch. The pressure was seriously on with them there!" the 29-year-old said, adding that it would be "nice" if Nadine Coyle and Sarah Harding could also see the show.
