Cameron Douglas, who is currently serving a five-year sentence for drug dealing, entered his plea on Thursday, reports People.
He now faces a maximum sentence of up to 20 years' imprisonment, which will then be followed by three years of supervised release along with a potential $250,000 fine.
It is believed that Douglas was caught in possession of items testing positive for cocaine and heroin.
After pleading guilty, Douglas admitted to having addiction issues and apologised to the court.
His father Michael Douglas has since issued a statement on the fresh charges, claiming that Cameron needs further help.
"Cameron accepts full responsibility for his conduct, which involved a small user-quantity of drugs," Michael said. "While he has made much progress, he is still not cured."
Douglas was sentenced to five years in jail in April 2010 for his role in a drug deal involving trafficking large quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine.
Douglas will be sentenced on December 21.
